BA(HONS)

“There’s an inverse relationship between how good something is for you, and how much fun it is.”

Calvin & Hobbes

In order to complete a graduate degree in librarianship, I first needed to get the undergraduate degree. Enter Ontario Tech University and their bridging program for a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Educational Studies and Digital Technology. This is a wonderful program that will let you “bridge” in your 2- or 3-year college diploma to the equivalent of 2-years of undergrad. That means that you only have 2 more years to complete to receive a full 4-year undergrad degree. It was very flexible and fully facilitated synchronously online. For anyone trying to work and upskill, I recommend this program heartily.

I will say, though, that it is a steep learning curve to go from college to university. I remember vividly breaking down about six weeks into the program because I didn’t feel like I could keep up. I sat down with a professor, Dr. Roland van Oostveen, to talk it through. He was so patient and explained that it was very common for students to feel the way I was about the program and he encouraged me to see it through. I am so grateful for his help because he was right – I just needed a little more time to “get the hang” of university life.

One fun outcome of this program is that you almost never submit papers but rather you spend all your time making explainer videos for your work. I’m including many of them here for your interest.
